Retail July 2010
With the Summer in full swing and the weather looking better than I can remember in years you would think that retail would be buzzing, however with Summer sales already in full swing retail isn't looking as good as the weather.
It's been a tough few months with the change in government and then waiting for the emergency budget results, consumers have been hanging on to their spare cash waiting to see what happens. Sales have started even early than normal in the big stores and chains which has forced small independents to go into sale mode earlier putting even more pressure on these important elements of the high street.
I believe both large and independent stores play an important part on the high street and I think more should be done to encourage independents on to the main high street, rather than hiding down the back streets of town. It's not easy though, from my own experiences at the moment it is like banging your head on a brick wall trying to get into a shop, you would of thought they would bite your hand off but it seems not!
As this is one of my first posts on the blog I am keeping it short and sweet but each month I will have a round up of whats going on that month in the world of retail to give you a good over view of what's happening and also my thoughts on it.
